Soccer complex opening soon at Lamar Dixon Expo Center
ASCENSION – A new soccer complex at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center is set to open soon.
The Expo Center is one of Ascension Parish's biggest attractions.
"It gives you a lot of chances to get away from the everyday busy life over here. It's like you're in your own little world," visitor Joel Gros said.
Soon, the Expo Center will get a state-of-the-art soccer complex.
"This was all a part of President Matassa's vision," Ascension Parish spokesman Martin McConnell.
McConnel says that even the fields should be able to be usable even after a heavy rain.
"You know these are tournament-based fields so what that means is it's got an under structure to it so theoretically after a downpour, within 30 minutes you can play," he said.
Lights tower over all seven fields and a brand new concession building with restrooms sits in between them. Parish officials say the fields are not just for soccer, they are for multi- use.
"To have more family friendly events out here and these fields are just going to enhance all of that," McConnell said.
The parish paid about $4.5 million for the project.
