FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The second man arrested in connection with the double murder of a Baton Rouge couple last month has waived extradition Monday morning. He’s expected to be returned to Louisiana from Florida in the next few days, according to officials in Broward County.

48-year-old Frank Garcia was taken into custody last Wednesday in Hollywood, Florida and is currently being held in a Ft. Lauderdale jail.

Garcia, and co-defendant Ernesto Alonso, are accused of first-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping charges in connection with the murder of a married couple, Denis and Suzanne Duplantier, in October. Their bodies were found strangled in their truck at a gas station in Hammond on Oct. 19. Investigators searched the couple’s home on Highland Road and found a safe open with cash missing from inside.

Alonso lived on the Duplantiers’ property and worked as a handyman for the couple, while Garcia is thought to be a relative of Alonso. Alonso is expected to be returned to the state around the same time as Garcia.
