LIVINGSTON – More than two months after the August flood, Livingston Parish residents saw their debris being picked up for the first time on Thursday.

Residents say that debris that has been sitting in front of their homes is an eyesore. One resident, Mistie Cadarette, said that the debris interferes with putting her home back together.

"It is an eye sore, we cant keep the grass mowed," Cadarette said.

Residents saw contractors collecting the debris for the first time on Thursday, two months after the flood.

"I knew it would take a while to get out here but we're ready to start construction finally and we were just concerned about having space for all the contractors coming through," Cadarette said.

Livingston Parish President Layton Ricks said that his office understands what the residents are going through.

"We're very much aware that all your memorabilia laying out in your front yard, mine is or was and just like yours, so we wanna get it as fast as we can," Ricks said.

"This is depressing enough to have to deal with your home and going to work on your home that you had to move out of and lost everything, but then to look out in your yard and see everything that was given to you from your ancestors passed down from your grandparents, that's tough," Ricks said.

Time is a big factor is removing the piles of debris from Livingston homes.

"So we're trying our best to get to it as fast as we can so at least you don't have to look at that and be reminded of it, but be aware and be patient it is going to take some time," Ricks said.

Even though it was a delayed start, residents say they are happy to see debris pickup begin.

"It took about two and a half months to finally get out here and get started, like I said we're happy their here," Cadarette said.
