Police: Suspect connected to 2019 shooting death of 16-year-old bonds out of parish prison
GONZALES - A teenager is dead following a shooting at an apartment complex off Highway 44 late Wednesday night.
The shooting was reported after 10 p.m. at the Magnolia Crossing Apartments. During the course of the investigation, detectives learned an 18-year-old male and 16-year-old male had been shot multiple times. Both were taken to a Baton Rouge hospital.
Authorities said Thursday, the 18-year-old victim is currently in stable condition. The 16-year-old died in the hospital.
The suspected gunman has been identified as 18-year-old Devonte Leblanc.
Investigators believe the victims had been sitting on the porch when Leblanc came from the rear of the duplex. Detectives located 14 spent shell casings and six bullet holes at the scene.
Leblanc was arrested in Sorrento and charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder.
On Thursday, February 27, 2020, Leblanc, whose bond was $135,000, bonded out of Parish Prison.
