GEISMAR - Deputies have arrested a suspect in a drive-by shooting that left two people hurt back in April.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said Tyrus Joseph, 24, was booked on charges of attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, assault by drive-by shooting and aggravated criminal damage to property.

The shooting happened April 1 at the intersection of LA 30 and Ashland Drive in Geismar.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. that night, deputies found a man inside the driver seat of a car suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Another person in the passenger seat sustained minor injuries.

Deputies later learned that the victims were stopped at a traffic light when a vehicle pulled up beside them and opened fire. The attacker fled the scene before authorities arrived.

Joseph turned himself in Monday afternoon and was booked into the Ascension jail.
