LAPLACE - Officials with St. John the Baptist Parish have announced a mandatory evacuation for part of the area. 

According to a news release from parish leaders, residents in Peavine, Frenier or Manchac should seek higher ground. 

A shelter is in place at Emily C. Watkins Elementary School. 

As of now, this is the only area in the parish under a mandatory evacuation.
