Man killed after early morning shooting in New Iberia
NEW IBERIA - One man was found laying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds after he was allegedly shot early Sunday morning in New Iberia.
The shooting happened sometime before 2:30 a.m., when deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office were called to the 600 block of Field Street in reference to a shooting.
Deputies located a 24-year-old male laying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The victim was then transported by Acadian Ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, the Sheriff's Office said.
Residents in the area reportedly heard a vehicle leaving the scene after the shooting, but were unable to determine the make or model of the vehicle.
The victim's identity will be released by the Iberia Parish Coroner's Office after next-of-kin have been notified.
