Funeral set for Southern students killed in shootout
BATON ROUGE - The Southern University Athletic Department released funeral arrangement for two students who were shot and killed last weekend.
LaShuntae Benton will be laid to rest at Christian World Ministries in Lake Charles at noon on Saturday, April 16th. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. that day, and a wake will be held the preceding Friday from 5 - 8 p.m.
Annette January will be buried the same day at noon at the Community Church of God in Christ in Hammond, Indiana. A wake will be held the previous day from 5 - 7 p.m.
Benton and January were shot and killed Sunday at The Cottages complex on Ben Hur Drive in Baton Rouge. Both were bystanders who were hit in a shootout.
Only one person has been arrested in connection with the case. Ernest Felton posted a $90,000 bond overnight Tuesday after being arrested on attempted murder charges. Investigators say he shot 24-year-old Brandon Henderson. Henderson is still in the hospital recovering.
