DENHAM SPRINGS - A wedding dress is hanging in the evidence locker at the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, but the story about how it got there won't be found in any criminal complaint.

Instead, it's a lost and found tale that seems more unlikely than reality. Deputies found the dress on the side of the road in perfect condition in its packaging.

The dress was found Thursday, a sheriff's office spokesperson said, on Highway 16 near Old River Road. A deputy noticed something blocking traffic and upon an investigation found the dress.

The dress is white and jewels are set inside an arrangement of designs.

"We're asking them to describe the packaging that it was in and we're asking them to describe the dress to the best of their ability so that we can return it to the rightful owner," said LPSO spokesperson Lori Steele.

The sheriff's office released a cropped picture of the dress, hoping someone will recognize the stitching and be able to provide accurate details and claim the dress.

"We'd like to get this dress back to its owner," the department posted on its Facebook page. "Spread the word!"
