Busted: Man with lengthy criminal past arrested by EBRSO
BATON ROUGE - Authorities have arrested a man wanted on multiple felony warrants in the parish.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office says Calvin D. Kemp, also known as "Pops," had warrants for his arrest from their office and from the Baton Rouge Police Department.
Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff's office said Kemp had been taken into custody.
According to an arrest report, Kemp used a bad check to buy $3,235.00 worth of furniture from a local store. On July 23 Kemp went to Furniture Expo on Cortana Pl. to buy a bed, mattress, and two sofas. Authorities say he used a business check from Totality Independent Living to pay for the furniture.
A few days later, the furniture store discovered the check wasn't good. For that incident Kemp's charges include forgery, theft, and monetary instrument abuse.
Authorities say Kemp has a history of this type of crime.
Back in April, Kemp allegedly used a bad check to purchase a 2003 Nissan Frontier from a victim. According to the arrest report, the victim discovered the previously deposited check was drawn from a frozen account. For that incident, Kemp was charged with theft of a motor vehicle.
