Officials considering lower speed limit along Lodbell Blvd.
BATON ROUGE- Soon, the speed limited could be lowered along a busy stretch of roadway in Baton Rouge.
It's on Lobdell Boulevard from Greenwell Springs to Florida. Right now, the speed limit is 50, but the city wants it down to 40 or 45 miles per hour.
Currently, there's construction on the road as the asphalt is redone. Once that is finished, traffic engineers will start gathering data they need to decide on the speed limit change.
Someone who supports the change is Sidney Lewis.
"Yeah 50 is too fast, I'm gonna tell you why I think 50 is too fast, you have a senior complex over there for seniors," said Sidney Lewis, a resident who supports the change. "They've got walkers, and some of them use their scooters to cross the street."
Lowering the speed limit is the first part of a bigger project, as the city just applied for funds from the state to improve safety for pedestrians on Lobdell and other streets.
