During wind advisory, tree toppled onto house
BATON ROUGE - Crews were called to the scene of a tree that fell on a house in the Merrydale area of the city Monday as high winds continued to gust into the evening hours.
The woman inside the home on Matthews Street, off Greenwell Street, said she believes high winds knocked part of the tree down. The same area was without power for much of the afternoon due to high winds disrupting power lines.
When the tree fell, the woman was babysitting several young children inside the home. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The entire WBRZ viewing area and beyond - from southeast Texas, across Louisiana to the Mississippi and Alabama Gulf Coast - was under a wind advisory from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. WBRZ forecasters said viewers should expect wind gusts of 30 mph or higher.
