PONCHATOULA — A 17-year-old in Tangipahoa Parish was arrested after making threats of violence for the school district’s first day back at school next week, Tangipahoa Sheriff Gerald Sticker said on Thursday.

Sticker shared information about the arrest in a social media announcement Thursday morning warning local residents that the sheriff’s office will deploy extra deputies to remind people to slow down while driving and that schools are “hands free” zones.

Further, Sticker advised that students stay off of social media with ignorance and drama.

“We have a zero tolerance with this—it’s ignorance,” Sticker said. “We received this tip through Crimestoppers.”

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Spokeswoman Ashley Rodrigue said Crimestoppers had received a tip this week that a female student from Ponchatoula High made a video with threats, saying she planned to shoot up the school and blow it up. The school district has communicated to families about the event, she says.
