ASCENSION PARISH - Finding a new superintendent hasn't been easy for school board members in Ascension Parish.

After narrowing the search down to four finalists, board members decided to advertise the position again.

"We have big shoes to fill," said Patricia Russo, president of the school board.

Across the country, people sent in their applications, eager to lead one of Louisiana's top-ranking school districts.

"We went out, we wanted to do a national search because we wanted to throw a wide net and see who was out there," said Russo.

The net didn't catch what board members are looking for, and now they're back to square one.

Russo tells News 2 the school system needs someone with extensive experience in education and management. Good social skills, is also a must.

"{Someone} who can go out into the community and make sure they know what's going on with our school system," said Russo, "and to me that's very important."

Parents, like Astrea Jupiter, moved to Ascension Parish because of the school system's good reputation and she expects it to stay that way.

"I like that they're being selective, it gives me a better peace of mind; they're trying to make it as best as they can for my kids," said Jupiter.

Applications for this round of interviews ends July 18th.
