BATON ROUGE - The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's office is warning residents of a potential scam circulating in the area.

According to the sheriff's office, at least one resident informed authorities that they received a phone call from the number 225-308-8515. When they answered the call, the victim says the caller identified himself as a sheriff's deputy.

In the call, the suspected scammer claims to be an EBRSO deputy and instructs the victim to obtain a Green Dot card and make the payment by phone to have an arrest warrant recalled. The victim told deputies they recognized the call as a scam and the suspect caller hung up.

The sheriff's office says it will never request payments by phone. If you receive any suspicious calls of this nature, do not provide them with any funds or any personal information. Hang up and report it to your local law enforcement agency.

Anyone with information concerning this incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office at 225-389-5000.
