NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A Louisiana sheriff says a man in a New Orleans jail on murder charges fell through a ceiling tile during a failed escape attempt earlier this week.

News outlets reported the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office said 28-year-old Kenneth Augustine jumped from a railing into the ceiling Sunday and crawled a few feet before he fell two stories to the floor.

He was taken to University Medical center in New Orleans where he was listed in stable condition.

Augustine was charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the Oct. 9 shooting that killed 23-year-old Greg Heisser III and 22-year-old Darnisha DeSilva.

Augustine turned himself in to police hours after the shooting.

The sheriff's office says he will face additional charges and more restrictive housing when he's returned to jail.
