Houma man booked on murder charge in 2015 overdose death
HOUMA - Terrebonne Parish sheriff’s deputies say they’ve arrested a Houma man accused of second degree murder charges in connection with a 2015 drug overdose investigation.
18-year-old Charles L. Hammonds was arrested on a search warrant Friday evening and booked into the Terrebonne Parish Jail.
The victim, Christy Hurst, was found dead inside of a room located at the Economy Inn Hotel in Houma on Dec. 3, 2015. Hurst died as a result of a narcotics overdose, according to investigators.
TPSO detectives and narcotics division conducted an investigation into the woman’s death. Another arrest warrant for murder charges was issued for Shantelle White. She was taken into custody on Dec. 20, 2015 and booked into the parish jail where she remains on a $250,000 bond.
Further investigation by deputies led them to believe that Hammonds was at the hotel on the morning the victim died.
He remains in the parish jail where $1 million bond has been set.
