WILSON — The Wilson Police assistant chief was stabbed in what deputies believe was a domestic dispute early Friday morning, the East Feliciana Sheriff's Office said.
Officials said they were dispatched around 3:10 a.m. to the 10,000 block of Grant Street. The assistant chief, Tyrone Kilbourne, was the victim, according to deputies. The incident happened while he was off-duty, and the stabbing was believed to be intentional.
Chief Kenneth Stewart says when he arrived, Kilbourne was outside and talking, but Stewart says he could tell he was in a lot of pain.
"So my concern at that time was to make sure that my officer was getting adequate attention and getting adequate medical care, so that's what I focused on at the time," Stewart said.
Stewart says Kilbourne was stabbed twice, once in the chest and once in the back. The East Feliciana Sheriff's office is investigating.
"I spoke with him about an hour ago; he was still on medication, but he is doing fine," Stewart said.
Kilbourne is believed to be in stable condition and could be discharged as early as this evening or tomorrow morning.
Alvin Broadway lives not too far from where the stabbing took place. He says he didn't find out about it until this morning, and was shocked to hear what happened.
"I know he's the kind of person, real good guy, no trouble or nothing, you know, so I couldn't figure that he could be in any trouble or anything, you know," Broadway said.
The sheriff's office says they do not have anyone in custody at this time, but Stewart says there is no threat to the public.
"I would like to let the general public know that they're safe and we're still going to be on duty, even though one of my officers went down, we're still going to do our job, so they don't have anything to fear," Stewart said.
