BATON ROUGE - The U.S. Postal Service has released a new series of 10 collectible stamps honoring Mattel Inc.'s Barbie, introduced at the annual National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention in Austin, TX, on July 10.
The stamps highlight Barbie's career evolution across more than six decades, featuring roles the doll has taken on since her debut in 1959.
"The original Barbie stamp has been one of our most memorable and beloved stamps, with appeal felt by Barbie fans young and old," said Lisa Bobb-Semple, the Postal Service's director of stamp services. "As much as our customers loved that stamp, we wanted to feature a selection of the modern careers depicted across the decades during which Barbie has become the best-selling doll of all time."
Barbie was introduced in 1959 as "The Original Teenage Fashion Model" and has since represented more than 250 careers. The new stamps pay tribute to that legacy across the last 65-plus years.
The stamps were designed by Ethel Kessler, a USPS art director, in collaboration with Mattel. The phrase "You can be anything" appears printed in white along the bottom of the stamp pane.
The Barbie stamps are issued as Forever stamps, meaning they will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price. Stamps are available at usps.com/shopstamps, by calling 844-737-7826 or at USPS locations nationwide.
