LSU President shares bond with LSU Football season opener site
MADISON - For many Tiger fans, LSU's match against Wisconsin signifies the start of the season. For LSU President and Chancellor F. King Alexander, it means a lot more.
Alexander, a University of Wisconsin graduate, returned to his alma mater this week to watch his team in the first game of the football season. It's a campus he's all too familiar with, and it's about to become a family affair.
Alexander's daughter is now a student at the University of Wisconsin, moving in this week. His other daughter, a proud student at LSU. For Alexander, when it comes to sports, he's in a house divided.
"Well she was born here when I worked here," Alexander said. "She kind of leaned this way, she was wide open. She was looking at a bunch of schools and decided on this one. I brought her up here in January, and she said she liked it, even in January."
The LSU President took News 2's Brett Buffington on a one-on-one tour of the campus today. The school sits along a lake; a popular place for swimming in the summer, transformed to hockey rinks in the winter. He pointed out popular spots along campus, spots his daughter will become familiar with as she starts the semester.
"They're both Land Grant universities," Alexander explained. "They mean so much to our states. It means so much to Louisiana, LSU, and many people have said Louisiana goes as LSU goes, and vice versa. And the same holds true really here."
