Fans' Choice Award Winner 2018: Week 11- Tyrion Davis
BATON ROUGE- Southern Lab running back and LSU commit Tyrion Davis has been on a tear this season nearing 2000 yards on the year with more than 20 touchdowns.
"Well a lot of people have been trying to compare Ty to a bunch of other running backs," said Darrell Asberry. "I think he's a back in his own class."
Davis looks at the success he has had a little differently
" I look at what I haven't accomplished. If I think should have done better that game I focus on that. Because you can't get caught up in all of that, so I play every down like it is my last," said Davis. After losing multiple backs last season, coach Darrell Asberry made Davis the focal point of this offense.
Davis has has thrived in that position because of his wide ranging skill set.
"A lot of people don't want to come up and hit him. He has moves with his running style. I just think he is a downhill back that can be a slasher," said Asberry.
The success that Tyrion has had so far this season comes as no surprise if you pay attention to have much work he puts in.
Coaches say he puts in extra time after practice, but what separates him is the face that he also runs the 100-meter dash for Southern Lab. It's something he believes helps him with his speed.
"He's a tremendous track guy. I followed throughout track. I was a the track meets. It's been a long time since I've seen a big man run that fast," said Asberry.
"I needed it. I feel like every football player should run track. All those 100-meters I did at practice and during meets. It all goes together," said Davis.
At LSU, Davis will team up in the backfield with 5-star back john emery. Davis saying the two have already been in contact and are excited for next season.
"We've had conversations. We're going to turn things around up there," said Davis.
