Cool Schools: St. Michael's Band
BATON ROUGE - The St. Michael's high school band recently competed in Festival Disney, an international band competition at Disney World. The band took home 10 awards and made their in front of bands from all over the world.
"All we ever asked them was to do your best," Band director Kevin "Doc" Andry said. "I think after that they got off the stage, we all thought that's our best."
The award-winning band earned superior ratings and best-in-class awards. The concert band received a bronze Mickey trophy, while the jazz band earned a gold one. Three St. Michael students earned individual Mickey trophies for their outstanding solos.
Students like sophomore Trey Parker and junior Rachel Wilson were really excited to hear the results and see the hard work pay off.
"Since I've been teaching, I've taken bands to Disney World." Andry said. "It's a great motivator and a great reward for great student behavior, and these students are the best I've had."
In addition to competing, the students got to spent time at the Disney amusement parks.
We salute you, St. Michael's concert and jazz bands, for being a really cool school!
