PORT ALLEN - A woman is dead and another was taken to the hospital after their car apparently flipped in West Baton Rouge Parish over the weekend and went unseen until Monday.

Friends of the victims discovered the crash along North Line Road in Port Allen Monday. Sources tell WBRZ the women had been reported missing over the weekend before they were found inside the overturned car.

One of the victims, identified by the sheriff's office as 22-year-old Brittany Guillory, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second was found alive and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The wrecked car was covered in bushes. Friends of the victims said it appeared the vehicle ran off the road, flipped and sank into a brush-filled ditch where it went unnoticed during the weekend.

The friends said they believe the wreck happened late Saturday night.

The survivor was trapped in the wreckage and fought to keep her head above water after rain swelled the ditch, flooding the upside down car. Authorities say she was pinned and unable to reach her cell phone.

Two friends told WBRZ they were retracing the drive home after not hearing from the two women since Friday night. They found tire tracks and wreckage around the brush Monday and eventually found the car. In a picture shared with WBRZ, the tires are barely visible, covered by trees and bushes.

Deputies said they believe one of the women was on the phone with a friend when the wreck happened, which prompted someone to report the accident to authorities.

The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said it tried to locate the vehicle around 4:30 a.m. Sunday by triangulating the signal from the women's cell phones. They said they were unable to make an accurate trace.

A deputy did drive down a parallel road but did not see the vehicle.

Guillory died before anyone could find them.
