Rape suspect who ran into swamp to evade capture arrested

ASSUMPTION PARISH - Authorities have arrested a man they say escaped capture by running into a swamp.

Trey Rentrop, 28, led authorities on a pursuit Friday evening around the Bayou L'Ourse area. Rentrop was considered suspect in a rape.

Rentrop lost deputies on foot as he fled towards the swamp. Authorities were later able to track Rentrop to a motel in St. Charles Parish

He was arrested Sunday.

Rentrop and three others were booked into the St. Charles Parish Jail. Rentrop will be transported to Assumption Parish to face a third-degree rape charge as well as charges related to his fight to evade arrest.
