PLAQUEMINE -Police Chief Kenny Payne says an investigation is ongoing after an officer-involved shooting that happened Tuesday night was captured on a Plaquemine Police Department body camera.

"I believe it will be ruled as a justified shooting," said Payne.

The officer shot and injured a man Tuesday night at a home on West W. Harleaux Blvd. It was ultimately determined that the man had been shot twice.

The unidentified man is accused of shooting his neighbor before hunkering down in his own house and pointing his gun at police.

It's unclear if police shot the suspect both times. Payne said before police arrived, the neighbor shot back at the man, possibly hitting him.

The neighbor was hit in the back, and has been released from the hospital. The suspect was struck in the elbow and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Payne said he requested that State Police investigate both the original shootout and the second, officer-involved shooting.

Troopers have yet to release the names of the other individuals involved, and they said criminal charges are possible as the investigation continues.
