GONZALES – Deputies in Ascension Parish are searching for a Baton Rouge man who robbed an Advance Auto Parts store in Gonzales Thursday.

According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, the robbery happened at the Advanced Auto Parts on Highway 44 just before 9 p.m.

Chief Deputy Bobby Webre said 38-year-old Derick Shelbia robbed the store at gunpoint and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Deputies were able to locate Shelbia on a nearby street, but he fled prompting a pursuit. Shelbia left his vehicle on S. Marchland Road and fled on foot.

Deputies, supported by K-9 units and air support searched the area but were unable to find him.

Investigators say Shelbia has an extensive criminal history with numerous drug, burglary and robbery charges. He is wanted for armed robbery, aggravated flight from an officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at 225-621-4636.
