BATON ROUGE - East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Deputies arrested a man for allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a knife and sexually assaulting her.

According to police documents, the victim told 20-year-old Trudell Coates that she wanted to end their relationship at a residence on Jefferson Highway. Coates threatened her with the knife saying he would "stab" and "kill" her.

The victim later calmed him down and convinced him to put the knife away.

Coates then told the victim to go up stairs which she fearfully complied to before being sexually assaulted.

After the incident, Coates fell asleep and the victim contacted her family and law enforcement to rescue her.

Authorities arrived shortly after. They arrested Coates who admitted to threatening and sexually assaulting the victim.

Coates was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where he faces a charge of second-degree rape.
