BATON ROUGE - A Baton Rouge Fire Department hazardous materials unit and the St. George Fire Department are on the scene of an accident involving a lumber truck on Essen Lane.

Two lanes of Essen were shut down headed toward the I-10 starting in the 5200 block. Traffic in connection with the wreck continued to build up as the 4 o’clock hour and commuter traffic added to the normal traffic volume.

The flatbed truck collided with a utility pole, likely causing around 300 people in the area to be without power just before 5 p.m.

A press release from the Baton Rouge Fire Department did not say what the hazardous material crews were attempting to clean up.
