CENTRAL - Two high school bands took to the field as one Friday night, to celebrate the heroes and honor the victims of 9/11.

"I'm Proud To Be An American" was performed live during halftime at the Dutchtown High and Central High school football game.  It was one of the messages from the students as they teamed up together.

Central Band Director James Henderson and Dutchtown Band Director Sheily Bell collaborated.

"Coming together, tearing down rivalries, their whole role was to tear us apart and what they ended up doing was bringing us together even more," said Henderson. "We're using this as an opportunity to commemorate that."

Members of the Louisiana National Guard, ROTC, Central law enforcement, firefighters and people who work in the public every day were all in attendance.

About 300 students were on the field, celebrating and supporting the groups in the community.

"We're out here, doing a great thing," said Henderson. "We love the support that we get and we thank you so much for the support that you continue to give us."

Both Dutchtown and Central bands practiced Friday night's performance for about a week.
