BATON ROUGE - According to Judge Richard 'Chip' Moore's daughter, Margot Elizabeth, her father appears to be winning his fight against novel coronavirus, as his condition is now steadily improving.

On Saturday, August 1, Moore's daughter posted that her father was now awake and able to communicate. She said that after the doctor told him he's been in Our Lady of the Lake's ICU with COVID-19 for 30 days, the judge was floored.

He asked how he got COVID-19 and requested to speak to his wife via Facetime.

On Sunday, Margot Elizabeth posted, "Dad is being moved to a regular room today!"

These updates over the weekend illustrate how much progress Moore's continued to make since his daughter's July 29th Facebook post when she said: "Awesome news about dad! He has had the vent turned off (called standardized breathing trial or SBT) everyday this week and has been doing great breathing on his own!"

"The doctors also believe that his mental status is back to baseline: he has been extremely alert and is communicating all of his needs with nurses/answering questions appropriately! All of his other labs and vitals are stable and back to normal, and he is on track to be extubated soon! We are expecting a full recovery! Thank you all for the support and prayers."

Moore was hospitalized in serious condition after contracting COVID-19 earlier this month, and placed on a ventilator.

While incapacitated, Moore was not only fighting for his life, but for his political career.

Due to his health, Moore was unable to submit his own election paperwork during the three-day qualifying period which ended last Friday (July 24). So, the judge's re-election team filed an emergency appeal and later announced success, saying Louisiana’s Supreme Court decided an attorney for Judge Moore can sign election paperwork on his behalf.

Moore's family has used social media to thank the public for their many prayers on his behalf, and they attribute the judge's improved health to these requests for divine intervention.
