Upcoming Red Cross events
BATON ROUGE- March is American Red Cross month. News 2's Rebecca Buchanan met up with some volunteers from the organization to find out what they do and how other people can get involved.
Red Cross volunteers often arrive at the scene of accidents shortly after firefighters and other first responders. Members of the organization help talk to victims of the accident. They help walk them through what's going on and make sure they have a safe place to stay.
"If you're able to make a financial donation, that's what allows us to be out there," Nancy Malone said Wednesday morning on 2une In. "but we need hands to do that as well, so we want you to be out there. Red Cross is all about volunteers."
The American Red Cross Power of the Purse luncheon will be held Wednesday, March 25th. The event will feature a speech from Fire Marshal, Butch Browning, and have a purse auction
The event will begin at 11 a.m. at the Belle of Baton Rouge Atrium. Tickets are $50 individually or $500 for a table of ten. They can be purchased on the Baton Rouge Red Cross website.
Home Fire Safety Neighborhood Service Day is on Saturday, March 28th. Red Cross Volunteers will volunteer to go door to door to install smoke alarms to homes in need.
The event will take place in the 70802 zip code, which has the largest response of home fires in Louisiana.
Anyone interesting in volunteering for this event should meet the Mckinley Alumni Center near the north gates of LSU at 9 a.m.
