LIVINGSTON - A man was arrested in connection with setting a person on fire in Livingston Parish.
Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office arrested James Aaron Page, 40, in connection with a fire that left Brandon Duncan with severe burns.
According to Duncan's family, he was injured while visiting Page's home in Walker. Duncan's mother, Amy Leteff, says he told her he was sitting next to a fireplace, scratching a lottery ticket, and the next thing he knew, he was on fire. She says Duncan put himself out, then called 911.
She says the fire burned 30% of his body, and Page set her son on fire by pouring gasoline on him.
Law enforcement says that they are still piecing together details about what happened.
"Both give conflicting stories. One says it happened for no good reason. Another tells us it involves unwanted sexual advances," Sheriff Jason Ard said.
WBRZ learned Page has had a history of violent arrests dating back almost 20 years.
In 2020, he was arrested for simple criminal damage to property, domestic abuse battery with strangulation and violation of a protective order. The following year he was booked for another count of domestic abuse battery, battery of a dating partner and aggravated flight from an officer where human life is endangered. In 2022, Page was booked for two additional second-degree battery charges.
While the charges stem from different incidents, Page was sentenced in all of them for three years in prison with credit for time served.
He was released before Jan. 2026, when he was arrested for fourth-offense domestic abuse battery.
