Lobdell Fire Chief paints truck pink to honor women at station

LOBDELL - The Lobdell Volunteer Fire Department Chief painted his rescue vehicle pink to show solidarity with his crew.
It has all of the bells and whistles a firefighter and first responder needs to do their job, but it stands out on any scene. The rescue truck is painted rose, the official color of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Lobdell Fire Chief Tim Crocket says he painted his rescue truck pink for the ladies. Women make up 15 percent of the firefighter population in Louisiana, but in Lobdell, women comprise 60 percent of the crew, including the chief's wife and daughter.
"Everyone pulls their own weight," Crocket's daughter, Whitney, says. "I think that even though we're women, we may be smaller in stature, we may do things differently, but we'll get the job done."
Like any department, each crew member plays a role.
"They do it all," Crocket tells News 2's Brittany Weiss. "They fight fires, anything, first-aid, deliver babies, hazmat; you name it, they do it."
Crocket says the entire department has been impacted by cancer in some way, and the truck helps raise awareness. It was designed by three of the ladies in the department and named "Miss Charmain" after one of them. It definitely makes an impression.
"We've had reaction from joy to tears," Crocket says.
The Lobdell Volunteer Fire Department has 22 members, and 14 of them are women.
