Band director now says Tigerama is back on
BATON ROUGE - "The show must go on."
LSU Director of Bands Damon Talley said Tuesday that after initially deciding to cancel this year's Tigerama due to recent challenges, a wave of support from alumni has led them to reconsider that decision.
Talley told News 2 that band alumni Rob Dowie will step in as a coordinator for the annual Department of Bands fundraiser after Pam Matassa withdrew from the position Monday.
"With Rob’s support, and if we can raise enough funding to make this work, I would love to see us be able to do this for the students, parents, community, and of course the tradition. I feel optimistic that it is possible, and would love to hear from you any thoughts," said Talley.
Matassa's decision to step down as coordinator was what initially led Talley to cancel the event for the first time in 35 years, saying they did not have the resources to put on the event in a way that would satisfy Tiger Band fans. LSU's online ticket office removed the Oct. 28 event.
Tuesday evening Talley said due to the tremendous wave of support, they will do everything they can to keep the tradition going this year.
Tickets will go back on sale Wednesday.
