BATON ROUGE - Louie's Cafe, one of Baton Rouge's most iconic breakfast spots, got word this week they will cater President Barack Obama's morning address at McKinley High School on Thursday.

Chefs at Louie's said they plan to get up at 3:30 a.m. to get the full-service buffet planned for the president and his staff ready. Traditional favorites such as eggs and sausage will be on the menu, along with some South Louisiana specialties.

Owner Jimmy Wetherford said he was contacted by organizers of the event at McKinley and asked if he could provide breakfast. He said they'll be bringing the full spread.

"Seafood omelettes, veggie omelettes, a little scrambled eggs, biscuits with the sausage gravy, hash browns, grits," he said.

People dining in at Louie's Tuesday morning had their own recommendations for what the commander in chief should try while he's in the Red Stick.

"I recommend the hash browns with colby jack cheese, with sour cream on top, with a waffle cooked by Fred," said Nancy Jones, who stayed up all night with her husband Johnnie to get tickets to see Obama speak.

The speech comes two days after Obama's final State of the Union address. The White House said Obama plans to highlight how things have changed for the better in Louisiana during his time in office.

WBRZ News 2 will have live, streaming coverage of the speech Thursday morning on air and on WBRZ.com.
