John 'JB' Barker elected as mayor of Plaquemine
PLAQUEMINE – John "JB" Barker was elected Plaquemine mayor on Saturday in a runoff election that wasn’t set until after a challenge by the third-place finisher in the race.
John "JB" Parker and Timothy "Timmy" Martinez had advanced to the runoff, eliminating two others. Tonya Harmason finished in third place, 33 votes behind Martinez, and tried unsuccessfully to have the result overturned.
Barker beat Martinez by a margin of 20%, or just over 400 votes, according to complete but unofficial results. Brent Babier and Micharek Carlin won seats on the Plaquemine City Council.
Randel "Panco" Badeaux Sr. and Dana Alexander faced off against each other for mayor of Rosedale. In a four-candidate primary, Badeaux led Alexander by three votes. Unofficial results have Alexander winning that race by five votes.
