BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - Two Mississippi men have been sentenced for their role in the shooting death of a man whose body was found in New Orleans last fall.

The decomposing body of 54-year-old Philip Whitaker of Diamondhead was found wrapped in carpet along Interstate 10 in New Orleans on Nov. 15.

WLOX-TV reported that Terry Smith pleaded guilty to manslaughter and tampering with evidence in court in Bay St. Louis. He was sentenced to 22 years in prison.

His son, Carl Smith, pleaded guilty to an accessory charge and evidence tampering. He was also sentenced to 22-years in prison.

Investigators say Whitaker was shot several times at Carl Smith's home in Kiln. Whitaker had last been seen in Harrison County, Mississippi, picking up a prescription a week before his body was found.
