18-year-old entrepreneur starts cupcake business
PRAIRIEVILLE - Hayley Thompson recently became one of the youngest bakers and business owners in Ascension Parish.
The 18-year-old opened "Bliss Patisserie" this past Saturday in Prairieville, and baked 400 cupcakes for her first day. Thompson said she sold out in just two hours.
"It's French-baked goods," Thompson said, "and I want people to get a blissful feeling when they come in."
The bakery at 17188 Airline Highway sells cakes, cupcakes, Italian ices, macaroons, ice cream and Thompson's specialty - "cake jars," which are mason jars filled with cake and icing.
Thompson told Sylvia Weatherspoon that she chose to open her own business instead of going to college out of high school. She said she's largely self-taught for baking and decorating, and hopes to one day have several bakeries.
You can get more information about Bliss Patisserie on their Facebook page.
