Thief takes off with trombone belonging to LSU musician

BATON ROUGE - A LSU musician's plans were messed up when someone stole his instruments. Someone broke into his apartment and stole his two trombones.

Thomas McKee is a Texas native who will be a senior music major at LSU this fall.

"I'm a musician," he told News 2's Brett Buffington. "I perform a lot of places and need my instruments to do what I need to do."

McKee says his instruments were in his apartment Thursday when someone walked through the front door and back out with his trombones. He says the two instruments are worth more than $8,000.

He's more shocked that someone broke in while he and his roommate were both at home.

"When you go after something that is that close to you, it's indescribable," McKee says.

McKee has called the police and is even working to track down the instruments himself. McKee believes the thief will likely try to sell the instruments to make some quick cash.

McKee received a tip someone tried to sell trombones matching the description of the ones he is missing at a music store Friday. The store refused to purchase them, and McKee says he's given that tip to police, though BRPD could not confirm that information when News 2 contacted them Friday.

McKee is a member of several concert bands at LSU and an alternate for the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra.
