Security camera recorded tornado cross Airline Highway Tuesday
PRAIRIEVILLE - Captivating video shows the moment an EF-0 tornado moved across Airline Highway in Ascension Parish earlier this week.
Thursday, businesses were cleaning up and shared the video with WBRZ reporter Natalia Verdina. The video shows debris flying around as the tornado moves closer to the camera. Eventually, the power shuts off and the video signal is gone. When the camera starts recording again, it is night time and the destruction is obvious.
"Everything was shaking, the ceilings fell down. I had no where to go, really," tornado witness David Blount said.
"It all happened just extremely fast. One minute it just started raining heavy, the wind picked up.. and it was just here," said another tornado survivor, Matt Valdiver.
Blount and Valdiver were at the shop when the tornado roared through.
"I was working on my lunch. I was sitting there, eating my sandwich and a co-worker went to try to pull the bay dor down and it just started coming off," Valdiver remembered. "He just jumped over the counter, grabbed me and we ran into the utility closet."
There were no injuries at the shop but rebuilding could take weeks or months, the owner said.
