Bakery on Florida Boulevard reportedly broken into overnight; owner says this isn't the first time

BATON ROUGE - The former Baum's Bakery location on Florida Boulevard is in shambles after a truck drove through the front of the business overnight.

The bakery, which is listed as permanently closed on Google, was seen Monday morning with major damage to the entrance and interior. Debris from a black Nissan Titan was left behind at the scene.

The owner, who chose not to be identified, said he just purchased the building two months ago. He was hoping to turn it into another Frank's Tire Shopexpanding from his first location on Evangeline Street.

On Monday, the owner said an inspection was scheduled for the old bakery shop. Those plans were canceled.

Days earlier, someone threw a Molotov cocktail into a home next door to the owner's current tire shop on Evangeline. That home was also owned by the business owner, and there were children inside at the time of the arson.

Now that a second property owned by the same man has been a target of violence, he's living in fear. He hopes Baton Rouge law enforcement will find substantial evidence in order to prosecute the individual responsible for these attacks, and upping security in the meantime.

Nothing was stolen from Baum's Bakery during the break-in. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
