WASHINGTON, D.C. - A robbery didn't go quite as planned for one thief after a group of women behind the counter decided to fight back.

Video from Tony's Breakfast in Washington, D.C. shows the encounter between the large suspect and three employees.

The man was seen entering the restaurant around in the early morning hours sometime last week. After hovering around in the background for a while, the man makes his way to the counter and makes a grab at the register as one of the workers is helping a customer.

The would-be thief gets a hold of the register, but the three women behind the counter refused to let the man get away.

"We were trying basically to protect each other," worker Key Aimes told WUSA. "I see those two, my young girls, could get beat up by that guy.  So I had to do something about it, so my instinct, you know, I just smacked him. And the other lady jumped up."

Sandra Andino and Justine Choe held on to the drawer and smacked the man's head repeatedly.

"At the moment, it was like adrenaline.  We were use doing our jobs," Choe said.

The robber did make off with about $30, but no one was hurt.

Area police are still looking for the man seen in the video.
