Suspected killer facing new charges in separate murder-for-hire plot
BATON ROUGE - Police made an arrest in a nearly two-year-old murder investigation Thursday.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, 26-year-old Shykeem McNeal was arrested in the August 2016 shooting of Jered McCalope.
Police say the crime happened in the 6000 block of Rembrandt Avenue on Aug. 14. Investigators believe it stemmed from a ongoing disagreements between the two.
McNeal was also arrested for allegedly agreeing to kill a woman last month. Prison phone records show that McNeal had several conversations with an inmate named Dasmon Franklin.
According to the arrest report, Franklin had offered McNeal $5,000 to kill a woman whom he believed had called police on him.

McNeal was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
