State Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Amite

AMITE- On Sunday the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations was asked to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Tangipahoa Parish.

The shooting occurred on Taylor Creek Road, according to a release.

The preliminary investigation revealed that at 10:03 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a home in reference to a domestic disturbance where the suspect was threatening family members with a weapon. When deputies arrived at the home, they made contact with the suspect, 36-year-old Philip McMichael.

During the encounter, shots were fired. McMichael was struck and later pronounced dead by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office.

The incident is still under investigation and no other information is available at this time.
