BAKER - Police officers will be returning to Baker schools for the upcoming academic year. This after the school district eliminated funding for resource officers last year.

"We definitely don't want anyone getting hurt and we want to prevent fights if possible," said Galen Conrad. He's one of two Baker police officers assigned to the high school.

Concerns grew about a lack of officers in the schools after cell phone video of a student punching a teacher last school year emerged. Also, there were general concerns about school shootings after a rash of incidents across the country.

The anti-drug program DARE also never got off the ground last year. Police Chief Carl Dunn had said it was all the result of some school board members playing politics but now says it was largely a misunderstanding.

"We're just going to move forward," said Dunn.

He said there are hopes to assign even more officers to Baker schools.
