INDEPENDENCE - A three-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle claimed the life of one man early Saturday morning on Interstate 55.

The crash occurred sometime before 1:48 a.m. on Interstate 55 two miles north of LA 40 in Tangipahoa Parish.

According to State Police, 32-year-old Geza Kovach Jr. of Loranger was killed in the crash.

Through the initial investigation, State Police discovered that a 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling northbound on Interstate 55.

The motorcycle then sustained a tire failure and subsequently crashed, according to State Police.

After crashing, the motorcycle was struck by a 1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by 52-year-old Kenney Ray Rogers of Magnolia, MS. Kovach was then struck by a 2012 Kia driven by 36-year-old Sherry Lynn May of Bogue Chitto, MS.

Kovach was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office. Rogers and May were uninjured in the crash.

Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash. Standard blood samples were obtained and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
