KILLIAN - People who live near the Tickfaw River in Livingston Parish are bracing for expected heavy rains that will likely create flooding issues.

The ground is already saturated in parts of the town of Killian along a canal that is connected to the Tickfaw River. Five months ago during flooding, resident Ronald Falgout said he loves his riverfront home on Johnson Drive near Highway 22. He said he wouldn't give it up for anything in the world.

Today that's a different story for Falgout.

"Oh I'm going to miss it man. I will, you know," he said. "It's not just the water. It's just the maintenance of the house and everything that's getting the best of me, so I'm just going to see what we can do with it, you know."

After 16 years of living on the water, Falgout says it's time to call it quits. He put his Killian home up for sale two months ago. Before he can even sell his home the threat of more flooding looms over his head.

"Back at it again. Sick and tired of it this time. But anyway we're ready," he said. "As soon as we get the word or whatever we're going to start packing up and stacking up all of our stuff, picking it up off the floor and get ready for the water if it comes in."

Most Killian residents living on the water have raised homes where they live on the second floor and use the ground level for storage. Falgout says he and his neighbors will be ready.

The Livingston Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness advises that in the event sandbags are needed, they can be obtained at the following locations:
