GRETNA – The Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand announced that he is retiring on Tuesday during a news conference.

Normand’s retirement is effective August 31.

According to WWL, Chief Deputy Joe Lopinto will be sworn in as sheriff. Normand will take over for Garland Robinette as a talk show host on WWL Radio. His first day on air will be September 11.
