Gun at school in Ascension, third incident in third parish
DUTCHTOWN - Ascension Parish Sheriff's deputies said a student was put into juvenile detention Thursday, a day after taking a gun to their high school.
A sheriff's office spokesperson said an anonymous tip was made to a crime hotline, reporting a student brought a gun to Dutchtown High School Wednesday. Deputies investigated and the student was placed in the detention center. Deputies confiscated the weapon.
The student's name and grade were not released.
"There was no report of a specific threat to a student or employee; however, we take this matter very seriously and commend the anonymous tip," the school's principal, Carli Francois, said in an email to parents.
In the first few weeks of school, guns have been found with students at schools in Ascension, East Baton Rouge and Iberville.
