Bond denied for rapper accused of killing educator along Airline Highway
BATON ROUGE — A judge denied bond for a Baton Rouge rapper accused of killing an educator along Airline Highway.
Judge Louise Hines on Thursday ruled against granting bond for David Catherine, now 24, also known as "RealBleeda." Court records from a case in Monroe connect Catherine to the "Bleedas" gang.
Catherine is one of three defendants in the 2024 murder of Teressa Calligan, who was the dean of coding for the Futures Fund division of the Walls Project and worked to provide teens with tech-based programming skills.
Robert Lewis, Roger Parker and Catherine allegedly shot Calligan multiple times as she was driving along Airline Highway on the night of Sept. 15, 2024. Calligan lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a sheriff's office unit. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Court records show a woman named Mckenzie Roach testified that she was with Catherine on the night of Calligan's death. She said they were together at his West Baton Rouge home.
In the alibi court filing, Catherine's lawyer Ryan Thompson said, "Worth note is that despite Mr. Catherine providing this alibi witness to BRPD officers, officers failed in their duty to investigate/speak to this alibi witness.
